About Me
- Heidi Smith
- Hi, my name is Heidi, I'm a freelance character designer, illustrator, and visual development artist who graduated from the character animation program at the California Institute of the Arts in 2008. I was the character designer and conceptual designer for ParaNorman, and I won an Annie award for my designs in 2013. In 2017, I illustrated my very first picture book, Lovely Beasts: The Surprising Truth, which won the Bull-Bransom Award in 2019 for excellence in the field of children's book illustration with a focus on nature and wildlife. I have also worked as a character designer for Henry Selick at Cinderbiter, The Jim Henson Company, DreamWorks Animation, Warner Brothers Animation, and Sony Pictures Animation. I'm obsessed with music, I love just about everything (except contemporary country music!!!) This rendered work you have been doing in charcoal lately is drop dead gorgeous. And even stripping away the lovely pencil shading, the designs are clever and rock solid. Congratulations. Very inspiring stuff.
